But that was then once again delayed to September 28th, 2020.įilming did start and we’ve been getting plenty of updates throughout the course of filming so here’s a bit of a timeline. Season 4 will be the penultimate season season 5 will be the last. It proved too large to tell in four, but - as you’ll soon see for yourselves - we are now hurtling toward our finale. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. Volume One will release on May 27th Volume Two will release five weeks later on July 1st. Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes.

With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one. In a letter penned by Matt and Ross Duffer they outlined why they’ve split season 4 and the decision to end the show after 5 season. They also confirmed that there will be a season 5 but that it’ll be the final season of the show.
